Media Alert EEOC To Commemorate Its 45th Anniversary

PHILADELPHIA— On Wednesday, December 8, the Philadelphia District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold a public event to commemorate the agency's 45 th anniversary and to discuss the status of its ongoing efforts to eradicate workplace discrimination. The event will be held at the National Constitution Center, Kirby Auditorium, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The EEOC, the Philadelphia Bar Association and the Philadelphia Federal Executive Board are sponsoring this event, which is open to the public. Admission to this event is free of charge but reservations must be made by calling 215-440-2671 or e-mail mary.tiernan@eeoc.gov.

The theme of the 45 th Anniversary Program, "EEOC at 45: Charting a Path toward Equal Employment," focuses on the agency's progress in promoting equal employment opportunities. Distinguished guests include:

  • Jacqueline A. Berrien, Chair, EEOC
  • Victoria A. Lipnic, EEOC Commissioner
  • William H. Brown, III, Former EEOC Chair
  • Sara Manzano-Díaz, Director of the Women's Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor
  • Scott F. Cooper, Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association

EEOC Chair Jacqueline A. Berrien, and former EEOC Chair William H. Brown, III, will participate in a discussion: "Reflections on the Past, Present and Future of the EEOC." Scott F. Cooper will moderate a panel discussion: "Charting a Path toward Equal Employment", featuring attorneys and stakeholders: Mark Dichter, Sidney Gold, Juan Laureda, Rosalyn O'Neale, Matt Rubin, and Patricia Folino.

The EEOC will also honor the following as Champions of Equal Employment Opportunity:

  • The Honorable Ida Chen, Court of Common Pleas
  • William H. Brown, III, former Chair of the EEOC
  • Homer C. Floyd;
  • Community Legal Services of Philadelphia;
  • Friends of Farmworkers, Inc.;
  • Delaware Department of Labor, Office of Anti-Discrimination;
  • New Jersey Division on Civil Rights;
  • Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission;
  • Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations; and
  • West Virginia Human Rights Commission.
