EEOC's Los Angeles Office to Host  Employer Roundtable on Sept. 19

LOS ANGELES - In recognition of the 20^th anniversary of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) mediation program, the federal agency's Los Angeles office will be hosting a series of employer roundtables on mediation and conflict resolution. The first in the series, Coaching Through Conflict Resolution, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Los Angeles District Office at 255 E. Temple St., 4^th Floor, Los Angeles, Calif., from 9:30 am to11:00 am. The EEOC's mediation program is recognized as one of the best mediation programs in the country. The opportunity to mediate complaints of discrimination is often offered to the complaining party and the organization the complaint has been filed against.

In fiscal year 2018, 6,754 charges were resolved nationally through the EEOC's mediation program, with a 97% satisfaction rate. The core principles that guide the program include the program being free and voluntary for all parties, fair and neutral outcomes that all parties agree to, and the fact that all the proceed­ings are confidential. On average, complaints are resolved through mediation within 90-days of the parties' agreement to mediate. This efficient resolution benefits all parties by addressing complaints quickly and by saving significant time, resources and money.

"This series will explore mediation strategies and showcase the benefits of early conflict resolution. Our goal is to provide employers with additional tools they can use in their workplaces."
