Mayor's Office Event Linked with President Bush's New Freedom Initiative

WHO: Chicago Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities sponsoring unique opportunity for small business owners to interact with presenters from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Justice.

WHAT: "Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): Technical Assistance for Small Businesses" Workshop.

WHERE: Merchandise Mart, Conference Center (2nd Floor) 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza; Chicago, Illinois.

WHEN: June 26, 2003 - 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

WHY: Topics to include job interviews; workplace accommodations; performance, conduct and safety issues; and financial and other incentives for hiring individuals with disabilities

The EEOC enforces Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits employment discrimination against people with disabilities in the private sector and state and local governments; Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act; the Equal Pay Act; prohibitions against discrimination affecting individuals with disabilities in the federal government; and sections of the Civil Rights Act of 1991. President Bush introduced the New Freedom Initiative during his first 10 days in office. The Initiative aims to increase the participation of people with disabilities in employment, education, home ownership, transportation and other areas of mainstream life.
