Daniel B. Kohrman is a National Executive Board Member and Officer of the National Employment Lawyers’ Association (NELA). He has been on the executive board since 2007 and Vice-President for Legislation and Public Policy since 2011. Dan also is an active member of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association (MWELA), where he has served on the amicus, membership and CLE planning committees. Dan first represented employment discrimination plaintiffs in the late 1980s, in class action race cases against federal agencies and unions. Since 2001 Dan has been a Senior Attorney with the AARP Foundation, representing older workers in age and/or disability discrimination and/or family and medical leave cases. Dan’s trial work primarily consists of class and collective actions, in both federal and state courts. Dan also has filed amicus briefs in age and disability bias cases in the 1st, 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and DC Circuits, as well as the state supreme courts of Texas, Mississippi and Minnesota. Dan also serves as a volunteer member of the national Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Dan previously served as Chair of ADA’s Legal Advocacy Subcommittee. Earlier in his career, Dan was Supervising Attorney for National Litigation at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice. Dan began his career litigating affirmative civil rights cases at Hogan & Hartson, LLP. He has taught civil rights law as an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University Law Center. He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School and a master’s degree from the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, in 1984. His B.A. is in History from Yale College in 1978. Dan is participating in this roundtable discussion as a representative of NELA only, and not as a representative of either AARP or the AARP Foundation.
